I didn't really know where to put this, as it wasn't a cover made for Ahrayeph, so why not put it here with all the other oddities that will be posted in the future, near or far.
This cover of the Regi Penxten - of Milk Inc. fame - penned Sylver track (for those not in the know, Sylver was a successful Belgian Euro Dance project) came about when in 2010 I was asked to reform my former cover band 6 Pack Jesus (it's a funny story how I got that name) for a gig at a reunion of the bar we were the house band of. All the band members were game, so we got together for a drink and to flesh out the set list, which, as usual, was heavy on rock with lashings of metal (we did a mean version of Maiden's 'Fear Of The Dark', emphasis on 'mean').
We put a set together pretty quickly, but the other band members also wanted to play something new. It should be something 'out there', not a standard rock or metal song. Somebody suggested 'Turn The Tide', and everyone just jumped on board. The problem was : we only had time in our collective agendas to schedule four rehearsals before the gig (which later even dwindled down to three, due to scheduling conflcts), with a set of about fifteen songs to revisit, not having played together for six years, and then we'd have to work out an entirely new arrangement for this new cover song. I said I'd do it, record it here at Rose Creek and then send the song to everyone when I finished it. And so it went.
The details are a bit sketchy, but I think I recorded 'Turn The Tide' in one single night, from arranging the drums, to playing bass, guitars and singing. It went pretty fast, that much I remember, because by the time the first rehearsal rolled around a couple of days later, I already had it with me to preview it to the band.
In any case, it's a fun cover, in which I put a bit of dark humour, by singing it in a mockingly morbid 'goth'voice, a bit like Nirvana did when they had to lip sync 'Teen Spirit' at Top Of The Pops. I just had a blast doing it, from the low baritone voice to the ska-like guitars, the auto-wah lead mimicking the synth lead melody and the rhythm section parts that I, ehm, borrowed off a song from another - world famous - electronic Belgian band and which fit in nicely.
And even after three years, almost to the day, I can safely say I've not tired of listening back to it, so I felt y'all should join in the fun. It's especially fun, if you first look up the original on Youtube :
